Different Ring Patterns Depending on Call Origination (Call Forwarding)??

Hi -- I have an Obi 202 that is currently configured with Google Voice.  I also have a Skype online number.  I know I can't configure Obi to work with Skype, so here's what I've done instead.

GV forwards to GChat (Obi) and Skype online number. So the phone attached to my Obi rings, and my cell phone rings (via Skype app).  I have Skype configured to forward back to GV if I don't answer in 12 seconds (this just puts a GV caller into GV voicemail, it doesn't cause an endless loop of ringing).  I do not forward GV directly to my cell number because (a) cell service stinks here and (b) wifi is great here (oh, and I have that only 100 minute but unlimited data T-mo plan).

The above all works fine... EXCEPT that my GV number is my former cell number that I use for business, and my Skype number is the number I've given out locally (family, neighbors, school, etc.) as our home phone number.  So, when the "landline" (phone attached to Obi rings) it could be a business call for me, OR it could be one of the kids' friends, calling the Skype number directly and getting forwarded to GV after 12 seconds.  And it's embarrassing when a client or colleague calls and my seven year old answers saying "Hi!!! Is this Adam???"

Is there any relatively *easy* way to configure the Obi to ring with one pattern for calls to GV, and a different ring pattern for calls that get forwarded from the Skype number?  I am far from an expert (attempting that Skype-to-Sip thing was waaaaay too hard for me), so the easiest possible way to accomplish this is what I need.

Or, is it possible to set this up in GV? I took a look at the settings for "Groups and Circles" thinking maybe I could put the Skype number in a group, but since the Skype number is my forwarding number, I wasn't sure it would work.

Any ideas?

kgjulie,

Here is an idea.

The OBi can handle calls using predefined "Profiles". Each Profile can be configured with a different ring sound. Are you starting to see where I'm going with this?

GV->Profile A (Ding a ling)
Skype-> Profile B (Da do run run)

You will need an additional DID number to receive the forwarded calls from Skype in order for Profile B to handle the call ringing. Get another free GV number or a free Callcentric number for this.

That's a great idea. I actually have a "spare" GV number from when I first signed up and before I ported my cell number. I'll give it a try and see how it works.

Thank you!

Again. if I understand your config, all Skype calls first go thru your cell before ringing the OBi202.
You can fix this with a config like this:
-->Skype -->  GV2/OBi202(SP2) --> Phone/ring tone 2
                                                --> Cell

Skype would forward all calls to GV2 and GV2 would ring the OBi202 and the cell at the same time.

I'm not sure if Skype can ring the App and another phone at the same time.

Yea just like I said.  :)
